longbeforethelandreformlawwaspromulgatedon30june1950,thephadbeenexperimentingwithmeasurestoreturnthelandtothevastnumbersofpeasants.theseexperiments,whichhadtakenplacewhereverthepartyhadbeenabletomaintainastronghold,includingthejiangxisovietandyan'an,hadknownvariousradicalaspects,butboileddowntotheabolishmentoflandownershipbythelandlordclassandtheintroductionofpeasantlandownership.anewelementthatwasintroducedin1950wastheprovisionthatthedevelopmentofagriculturalproductionresultingfromthiswouldpavethewayfortheindustrializationofchina.asaresult,manypeasanthouseholdsheldthedeedfortheirpieceoflandforthefirsttimeever.
