第三部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分
第一节(共 15小题;每小题2分,满分 30分 )
预读下列短文,从每提所给四个选项(A、B、、C、D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
How many people have I met who have told me about the book they have been planning to write but have never yet found the time? Far too many.
This is Life, all right, but we do treat it like a rehearsal (排演) and, unhappily, we do miss so many of its best moments.
We take jobs to stay alive and provide homes for our families always making ourselves believe that this style of life is merely a temporary state of affairs along the road to what we really want to do. Then, at 60 or 65, we are suddenly presented with a clock and several grandchildren and we look back and realize that all those years waiting for real life to e along were in fact real life.
In America they have a saying much laughed at by the English:“Have a nice day”they speak slowly and seriously in their shops, hotels and sandwich bars. I think it is a wonderful phrase, reminding us, in effect, to enjoy the moment: to value this very day.
How often do we say to ourselves, “I’ll take up horse-riding (or golf, or sailing) as soon as I do get a higher position,” only to do none of those things when I do get the higher position.
When I first became a reporter I knew a man who gave up a very well paid respectable job at the Daily Telegraph to go and edit a small weekly newspaper. At the time I was astonished by what appeared to me to be his pletely abnormal (反常的) mental state . How could anyone turn his back on Fleet Street in central London for a small local area? I wanted to know.
Now I am a little older and possibly wiser, I see the sense in it. In Fleet Street the man was under continual pressure. He lived in an unattractive London suburb and he spent much of his sitting on Southern Region trains.
56. The first paragraph of the passage tells us that .
A. we always try to find some time to write a book
B. we always make plans but seldom fulfill them
C. we always enjoy many of life’s best moments
D. we always do what we really want to do
57.The underlined phrase“turn his back on”( Paragraph 6 ) most probably means .
A. leave for B. return to C. give up D. rely on
58. What is probably the best title for the passage?
A. Provide Homes For Our Family B. Take Up Horse-riding
C. Value This Very Day D. Stay Alive
B
The other day at a supermarket, I saw a naughty boy of about six crying loudly, falling to the floor and refusing to move. All the while the troubled mother was trying to persuade him to behave well, but failed. A little slap(巴掌) on him would have done the job, I thought.
Teenagers also cause discipline(纪律) problems. As a teacher, I had a 16-year-old student who had fallen in love with a waiter at a fast-food restaurant. In fact, she had left home to stay with him. So we decided to put her in the school hotel. She refused. When she heard her mother begging her to stay in the hotel, she said, “Why don’t you stay in the hotel if you like it so much?”
I want to slap her for being so rude, but the poor mother continued to cajole her, hoping the gentle persuasion would work wonders. It did not. Later I heard that she had run away from home again.
The list goes on and on. Could it be that today’s parents are softer and believe that they must not rod(棍棒惩罚) their children for fear of the bad result? Or do they actually believe that the children will get rid of the bad habits and behave well naturally as they grow older? I beg to disagree. I believe it is the parents’ duty to discipline the children, even at a young age.
My children who are now adults will prove the fact that I used the rod when I thought it necessary. Later when they went abroad, they told their British university friends how they were disciplined. Their friends abroad were frightened and told my daughter that I could be charged with child abuse. However, my daughter showed great respect for me when she told them that she would not be where she was if not for my strict discipline.
59.The underlined word “cajole” in paragraph 3 probably means_________.
A. persuadeB. scoldC. fiveD. punish
60.The author would probably ________.
A. beat the children every dayB. treat the children in a softer way
C. leave the children as they areD. punish the children when necessary
61.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A. the naughty boy’s mother hit himB. the teacher’s daughter is living with the teacher
C. the author’s daughter was thankful for the author’s strict discipline
D. the author was charged with child abuse by her daughter’s friends abroad
62.Which of the following could be the best title for this passage?
A.Spoil KidsB. Value DisciplineC. Respect ParentD. Protect Kids
C

To a large degree, the measure of our peace of mind is determined by how much we are able to live in the present moment. Regardless of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are ― always!
We allow past problems and future concerns to control our present moments, so much that we end up anxious, frustrated, depressed, and hopeless. We often convince ourselves future will be better than today. John Lennon once said, "Life is what's happening while we're busy making other plans. "When we're busy making other plans", our children are busy growing up, the people we love are moving away and dying, our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away. In short, we miss out on life.
Many people live as if life were a dress rehearsal for some later date. It isn't. In fact, no one has a guarantee that he or she will be here tomorrow. Now is the only time we have, and the only time that we have any control over. When our attention is in the present moment, we push fear from our minds. Fear is the concern over events that might happen in the future―we won't have enough money, our children will get into trouble, we will get old and die, whatever.
To struggle against fear, the best strategy is to learn to bring your attention back to the present. Mark Twain said, “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” I don't think I can say it any better. Practice keeping your attention on the here and now and your efforts will pay off.
67. The purpose of this passage is to tell readers ______.
A. people who are busy making plans are living actively
B. how to help others overe fear
C. we ought to learn to live in the present moment
D. someone who only enjoys the present time usually wastes his time blindly
68. It implies(暗示) from the passage that ______.
A. many people know how to fight against fear
B. it isn't necessary to fear for future
C. you can gain more happiness by putting off your pleasure
D. some people make plans for their children to improve their lives
69. "Many people live as if life were a dress rehearsal" suggests that ______.
A. they always wish to be an actor or an actress
B. they believe that their present life is well prepared for their future
C. they are always busy making plans for future
D. They all have a guarantee that they will be alive tomorrow
70. Why are some people depressed and anxious day and night?
A. Because they fear they cannot pass their tests.
B. Because past problems and future concerns control their present moment.
C. Because the people they love want to leave them alone.
D. Because they make some mistakes in the past.

Therefore, the children have separated from their parents and live with their grandparents and relatives, who are not so educated, so their study, their mental and psychological demands can’t be drawn attention. In that case, it’s easy for them to get into bad habits, that can’t be corrected in time. What’s worse, the lack of parents’ love may make them feel alone.

书面表达:
Nowadays, with the development of the Inter, there came a kind of language called Web
Language. Some people even speak Chinese with English words. This is a phenomenon worth talking about.
40% students think it kind of ridiculous. In their opinion, it makes no sense in helping people municate or learn English. Besides, it is against the Chinese grammar rules. However, 60% students are fond of this way. They appreciate its humor. They think it of special help in expressing themselves. And it can make the language varied.
Personally, I don’t think it good to use this kind of language. It may be fashionable as some think, but you may also get your idea confusing, leaving other people at a loss about your meaning.

W: What do you think are the main causes of war today?
M: I’d say the main reason is poverty. Some countries and their people get frustrated because they have so little. If their neighbors have some resources, they try to steal them by military force.
W: It’s seems that a lot of wars nowadays are actually civil wars. People in the same country sometimes fight for power in that country.
M: Several of those civil wars have been going on for years and years. It seems they will never end.
W: How do you think they could be ended?
M: I don’t think that there is any easy way. The United Nations could send peacekeepers into the country. At least the warring parties could be forced to negotiate. The thing is to find out the real problem for the war and solve that.
W: So if the cause is poverty, there should be a program to make the country richer. If the reason is resources, share them.
M: It sounds easy when you say it like that. In reality, it’s harder to make peace between countries.
W: Yes, it is. One way to stop countries fighting is to cut off their financial support. Wars are very expensive.
M: The problem is that many poor people might suffer.
Text 10
Most Americans retire after the age of 60. The usual age of retirement is 60, although some people retire at 55 or younger. Other Americans do not retire until they are in their seventies. This is more frequent now as population growth in the U. S. slow down, and average age of the citizens increases. Most Americans usually make plans for their retirement well in advance. Their ine after retirement may include interest on bank savings and pany pensions. Americans also receive Social Security Payments from the federal government.
Most Senior citizens want to remain active after they retire. For many, retirement is an opportunity to pursue lifelong hobbies or interests.
Many retires move to warm parts of the country. The Sunbelt, which means the southern states, has many retirement munities. In some towns in Florida, for example, most of the citizens are retired.
