在荷花开放的季节里，北京的天气也很热，烈日当头，但我们为了去首都观光旅游，不顾炎热，妈妈还带我去登万里长城。
我们去登长城，乘专车来到长城脚下，哇!长城可真伟大呀!远远望去就像一条巨龙卧在大山上，起起伏伏，好高好高呀!就是把后脑勺贴在背上也看不见顶。
我们顺着一条很窄的楼梯爬上了一个峰火台，从门口走出去，来到城墙里，然后抓着栏杆往高处爬，上了一个一个台阶，过了一个一个烽火台，才到了上长城的一半，我累得大汗淋漓，气喘吁吁，像个泄了气的皮球，一屁股坐在地上爬不起来了，“暄暄，你脚下的路是工人用血汗砌成的，一定要爬上去。”“记得“不到长城非好汉”这句话吗?”妈妈二次说到。我立刻增加了百倍力气，迅速往长城顶上冲，到了最后一段，石梯陡得已经快碰到鼻子了，耳热、心跳、气喘，经过了最后的挣扎，我终于爬上了长城。
这时，我看到全北京都映在我的眼帘中，真是“欲穷千里目，更上一层楼”，我深深体会到了这两句诗的真正含义。
